Ollie‘s Story

Ollie is a 4-year-old, 40-pound Standard Poodle. Ollie has come a long way in the short time he has been with his foster family. He spent his first few years with little human contact and virtually no interaction with other dogs. When he arrived at his foster family’s house he was scared of all people and just about anything that moved or made noises. A few short weeks later he has formed a strong bond with his foster dad and enjoys taking part in the daily backyard squirrel patrols with the other dogs in the house. A favorite pastime is sitting on the sofa watching Animal Planet with his new doodle friends. They like to offer their opinions about the different animals they see. Ollie has a very gentle and sweet nature and loves neck and belly rubs. Even though he is timid, he has never shown any aggression towards any new people or pups. He prefers that the introductions be made by his foster dad and then will sit quietly while the new folks pet him. He is still learning how to play with the other dogs, but in quiet times can be seen lying on the bed resting his head on one of the other dogs. After his first week with his foster family, Ollie was given full run of the house and quickly mastered the use of the dog door to go outside when he pleased. He has not had a single accident in the house since his arrival. Ollie likes to retreat to his crate at night for bedtime and will go there when the house gets crowded with lots of people he doesn’t know. When invited, he will climb in bed with his foster dad and spend the entire night sleeping quietly. It is probably best to consider him a flight risk at this point, but he did get out the front door recently and ran to the edge of the yard, where he sat down and waited to be called back to the house. He goes for daily walks on the leash and does a great job with that, no pulling or trying to go his own way. Ollie is still a work in progress, but will make a terrific companion for someone who is patient and willing to let him adjust and develop at his own pace. Just about each day brings a new achievement as he learns just how good life can be living with a caring family. He has definitely learned that the treats are handed out in the kitchen and never misses the chance to join the crowd when someone goes in there. Ollie can live and thrive in different environments but will likely form the strongest relationship with one person in the house and that person will become his pack leader. He has not spent any time around children at this point so there is no assessment there. A single person household, with or without other dogs, is most likely ideal. He does like to spend time outside enjoying the sunshine, so a fenced backyard is necessary. He can be trusted to roam about the house while the people are out, but is also used to spending time alone in his cage if that is necessary. Ollie is a wonderful dog who got off to a rough start in life, but is now at the point where he is ready to be happy and return that happiness to a lucky family.

Ollie is fully vaccinated, HW-, sterilized and microchipped.
